(NEW YORK, NY) — A start date has been given to the dreaded L train shutdown. Commuters, brace for impact.

The Canarsie Tunnel reconstruction project will begin on April 27, 2019. The MTA is working toward making alternative routes as stress-free as possible and has launched new details regarding the shutdown.

On April 21, there will be five new bus routes, a new Select Bus Service route on 14th street, and ferry service between Williamsburg and East 20th Street will begin.

On April 28, additional subway services on the A, E, F, J, Z, M, and G lines will begin.

Along with the service modifications, the MTA will host several pop-up events, open houses, and mobile information centers so riders can meet with employees to plan their alternative routes.

Before the shutdown, overnight and weekend closures (between Eight Avenue and Broadway Junction) will take place every weekend of February, the first three weekends of March, and the weekend of April 27 and 28.
