Lord & Taylor officially closes Fifth Avenue flagship after 104 years

The retail giant closed its doors for the last time Wednesday

Lord & Taylor, Manhattan, NY

(NEW YORK, NY) — Well, it’s January 2nd and the holiday season is over, which means Lord & Taylor’s 104-year run on Fifth Avenue has officially ended.

The doors shut one last time Wednesday, removing the retail giant’s footprint from one of the most iconic shopping strips in the world.

And, if that wasn’t sad enough, this year’s window display was a tribute to all New Yorkers, thanking shoppers for years of loyal business.

Lord & Taylor sold the 11-story building to WeWork back in 2017 for $850 million.

The closing of the flagship location marks the end of an era as the company plans to shift its focus to online sales.
