(NEW YORK, NY) – An Upper West Side bookstore will remain open thanks to a GoFundMe campaign.
The campaign goal of $50,000 was reached in just a few days for Westsider Rare and Used Books, located on Broadway between 80th and 81st streets.
Opened for 35 years, Westsider is the Upper West Side’s last used bookstore.
Co-owner Dorian Thornley announced that the beloved storefront would close permanently if she could not pay back rent.
Locals and supporters pooled together and in just a few days raised a jaw-dropping $50,000.
As is the case for many mom-and-pop shops, big-name competitors such as Barns & Noble and Amazon are becoming harder to compete with.
However, what Westsider has that big companies often lack are loyal costumers and the support of a neighborhood.
