(NEW YORK, NY) — Downtown New York City is about to get another marijuana dispensary (medical of course).
Columbia Care, which was the first medical marijuana dispensary to open in New York City back in 2016, is making its way to Brooklyn.
Last month the dispensary signed a lease for 7,000 square feet at 44 Court Street. And while the marijuana industry is booming around the world, opening a dispensary in New York City is difficult. Expensive registration fees, geographic restrictions and a lack of financing has limited companies from opening a storefront in desirable areas like Brooklyn.
However, some companies have been able to open in the dream location despite restrictions. Citiva Dispensary recently opened a storefront on Flatbush Avenue. And as the demand for
dispensaries heats up, more and more will follow in Citiva and Columbia Care’s footsteps.
Columbia Care is currently licensed in 11 states including D.C. and Puerto Rico.
