(NEW YORK, NEW YORK)— Jennifer Lawrence, the Hunger Games star who most recently made headlines for her marriage to art gallerist Cooke Maroney, has listed a “secret” penthouse on the Upper East Side, according to the New York Post. Until now, no one knew that Lawrence was the owner of the property.
Originally listed for $15.45 million, the price has gone down to $14.25 million. Lawrence paid $15.6 million to purchase the apartment in 2016, according to property records obtained by The New York Post. The stunning three-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom apartment is $3,498 square feet with 12-foot ceilings and unobstructed 360-degree views. There is an additional 3,000 square feet of terrace space, including exclusive rooftop access. The apartment also features a built-in fireplace, in-unit laundry, and in-unit storage space—special amenities particularly coveted by New Yorkers.
With so much going for it, realtors still anticipate that the Lawrence will sell at a considerable loss. The market has softened considerably since she purchased the apartment. Agent, Rowena DasGupta of Warburg Realty, told Realtor.com that the neighborhood might also be a drawback, when so many apartments with comparable amenities are in more lively locations. “The location for the price is not prime.” DasGupta said. “That stretch of First Avenue in the East 60s has not changed much since the 1990s. It is drab, with very little to offer by way of great restaurants or other notable amenities and seems a bit random.”
Although the Upper East Side has long been a coveted location for the extremely wealthy, it’s losing some of its cultural cache as former industrial ghost towns like SoHo and Tribeca attract the young and newly wealthy. The millionaire starlet also owns an investment property in Tribeca, which she is currently renting out for extra income.
